Birds have always been a source of inspiration.
Perhaps it's their ubiquitous place in our landscape and their captivating songs. Maybe it's how they capture our imaginations. Or perhaps their ability to shake off earth-boundedness and soar without limitation. Our job at The Bird Rescue Center is to heal the sick and injured, care for the orphaned until they're old enough to fend for themselves, and then release all of these muses back to the wild so that they may continue to grace our skies.
Join us for our third For the Love of Birds Art Auction with reception. Enjoy local wines and a variety of cheeses and small goodies while you roam through the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, appreciate the variety of bird-inspired paintings, photographs, sculptures and more. You can bid on your favorites to take home with you or purchase as a perfect holiday gift for a nature loving friend or relative! Auction opens online on October 28th
"My art reflects the path of my life from the rural Alaskan tundra to the Trinity Mountains to the ranches and hills of Northern California. That path is intertwined with the inner world of my imagination.
Standing on the solid landscape of this beautiful earth and painting what is physically in front of me is what creates a sense of balance and a firm landing place for the deeper, dreamlike world of my narrative art.
My art has always been about telling a story. Whether I am looking out at the landscape around me as I set up my easel, or glancing inward on the visual narrative spinning in my mind, I am always telling myself a story. I have written and published many books using a carefully selected palette of words to give the right weight and depth, or levity to my story. Writing has taught me to paint pictures with words; painting has taught me to tell my stories with shapes and colors and composition.”
